通信社写真部の歩み
１９１９年（大正 ８年）
日本電報通信社(電通)が大阪支局に写真課を新設。
１９２１年（大正１０年）ころ
帝国通信社(帝通)が大阪支局に写真部を開設。部長以下４名。
１９２２年（大正１１年）
電通は本社にも写真課を設置、ニュース写真配信を開始、平和大博覧会開催（於・上野）と英国皇太子の来朝を契機に。
１９２３年（大正１２年）
帝通、関東大震災の発生で大阪から出張取材。これを機に東京に写真部設置。帝通は地方紙２０社に配信。
１９２４年（大正１３年）
電通の写真課員は１２人。１９２８年（昭和３年）には２８人に増加。
１９２８年（昭和 ３年）
新聞聯合社(聯合)が、昭和天皇即位の大典を機に写真サービス開始。
１９３６年（昭和１１年）
同盟通信社(同盟)発足に伴い、電通写真部が同盟と一本化取材開始。
同盟の写真部員は同年１１月で４２人、昭和１９年１１月で６２人。

１９４５年（昭和２０年）
同盟が解散し、共同通信社と時事通信社が発足、同盟写真部員は２つの通信社に移動。現在に至る。
１９３２(昭和７)年５月２１日、５・１５事件後の政局取材のため神田駿河台の西園寺公望公の邸内で待機する新聞・通信各社のカメラマン。パルモス、グラフレックス、アンゴー、大判一眼レフなどが並ぶ。（日本電報通信社撮影）

Nippon Dempo Tsushinsha (Dentsu) sets up photo section in Osaka Bureau
1921
Teikoku Tsushinsha (Teitsu) sets up four-member photo section in Osaka Bureau
1922
Dentsu sets up photo section at Tokyo headquarters, starts distributing news photos
1923
Teitsu sends photographers from Osaka to cover Great Kanto Earthquake and later sets up photo section in Tokyo. Teitsu distributes news photos to 20 member newspapers
1924
Dentsu’s photo section has a staff of 12 people, boosted to 28 by 1928
1928
Shimbun Rengosha (Rengo) begins photo service in time with ceremony to mark ascension of Crown Prince Hirohito as Japan’s new emperor
1936
With birth of Domei News Agency, Dentsu’s photo section bands together with Domei’s photo section. Domei’s photo staffers total 42 in November 1936 and rise to 62 in November 1944
1945
Domei disbanded, Kyodo News and Jiji Press established, former Domei photo staffers work for either of the two news agencies
