After quake
１９２３(大正１２)年９月、中央線万世橋駅の惨状。辰野金吾設計の赤れんが造りの駅舎は壁を残して焼け落ちた。中央は日露戦争の｢軍神｣広瀬武夫中佐と杉野孫七兵曹長の銅像。１９３６(昭和１１)年、駅前に鉄道博物館が移転し、１９４３(昭和１８)年には駅が廃止され建物は博物館専用に。同博物館は戦後「交通博物館」となった。
Manseibashi Station on the Chuo Line is heavily damaged in the Great Kanto Earthquake in September 1923. In the middle is a bronze statue of Takeo Hirose, an Imperial Japanese Navy officer deified as a “military god” for his heroism in the Russo-Japanese War, and another hero, Naval Warrant Officer Magoshichi Sugino. Railway Museum opened in 1936 and Manseibashi Station closed in 1943. The museum was renamed Transportation Museum after World War II.
現在Today
２００６(平成１８)年５月１４日、交通博物館が閉館の日を迎え、大勢の鉄道ファンや親子連れが詰め掛け、名残を惜しんだ。

現在Today
２０１１(平成２３)年１２月、交通博物館跡には２０１２(平成２４)年中の完成を目指し２０階建てのオフィスビルの建設が進む。後方は秋葉原電気街のビル群。
